Angel Flight of Georgia provides free air transportation for people with severe medical needs that cannot be addressed locally. Incorporated in 1985 and based at the DeKalb Peachtree Airport, Angel Flight is staffed by volunteer pilots, and is committed to providing clients with transportation for the duration of their treatment.
The Center for Family Resources works to meet the needs of the working poor and homeless populations in Cobb County. In 2007, CFR assisted 331 families with rent or utility payments; provided 2,716 households with food from its food pantry; housed 220 individuals; and welcomed volunteers who provided more than 8,300 hours to assist with its programs and services.
Literacy Action, Inc. provides literacy, life and work skills to adults in order for them to become self-sufficient employees, parents and citizens. For more than 40 years, Literacy Action has also partnered with other nonprofits to address many of the region’s social issues including homelessness, hunger, childcare, transportation, health and violence and abuse.
Southern Polytechnic State University is a comprehensive university within the University System of Georgia with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is among the top colleges in the U.S. for awarding bachelors and masters degrees in engineering technology to African-Americans and women.
Regional Council of Churches is a nondenominational organization of congregations, educational institutions, ministries and individuals, which has been instrumental in the creation of many programs and projects that continue to serve the region, among them: Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters, Congregational Exchange and Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services of Atlanta.
