The Atlanta region is experiencing historic change and growth, facing great challenges but also great opportunities. The issues we face today – transportation, water, education, diversity, health care, land use, and air quality – affect everyone in the region, and our solutions to these challenges will shape and transform the region in years to come. Only a constructive, inclusive and functioning coalition of citizens can offer the best solutions to our region’s challenges. The Civic League for Regional Atlanta’s mission is to make the Atlanta region a better place to live, work and play by bringing together the region’s residents, who represent diverse demographics, economics, backgrounds, perspectives, and needs, to build consensus, advocate for the greater public interest, and develop social capital. By representing citizens’ interests in discussions with business leaders and elected officials, The Civic League seeks to advance collective decision-making and is leading the way to develop a region that reflects the very best of its people. Together, we can make a difference. The Atlanta region has witnessed exponential growth and recognition due in part to the decision-making of local individuals who promoted interests aligned with advancing the livelihood of all. And just as the wisdom of these inspirational and innovative leaders to engage the people helped to establish our region as a leader in the South, our collective response to today’s challenges will shape and transform the region for generations to come. President John F. Kennedy spoke of a generation’s responsibility to make decisions that leave the world a better place for the generations that follow. The Civic League understands that the best way to do this is to ensure that the many opinions and hopes represented throughout our diverse region are heard. Real people, and not special interests, must be given a voice, as only then can we make decisions that will unite and strengthen the region for future generations. |
