| Plan 2040 forums: Will your neighborhood be represented? |

Thirty years from now, where will metro Atlantans get their water? How will they get around? What about greenspace -- will there be enough? And will the region still be able to attract new businesses, new residents and visitors? On Thursday, June 10, The Civic League for Regional Atlanta and the Atlanta Regional Commission kick off a series of four Neighborhood Forums designed to engage everyday citizens in determining long-range plans and priorities for their communities and the region. The discussions will center on Plan 2040, which is currently being developed by ARC to accommodate economic and population growth sustainably over the next three decades. "We hope neighborhoods and communities in these counties will make a point to send at least one representative to participate in this important dialogue," says Civic League chair Lesley Grady. The first Forum will be held at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce (240 Interstate North Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339) and is geared toward residents of Cobb, Cherokee, Douglas and Paulding counties. The Forum runs from 6:45 to 9 p.m., and participation is free, though space is limited. The Civic League asks that participants register online or by calling (404) 413-0331 by June 7. "A strong regional plan needs regional citizens, and The Civic League's job is to provide a forum for their input and feedback," says Grady. "When we began hosting Neighborhood Forums in 2008, we asked participants to dream big and envision an ideal region. Now as ARC is developing Plan 2040, we're asking citizens to help us think about reality: How close can we get to that ideal region, and what are the priorities and the necessary trade-offs?" Three more Neighborhood Forums on Plan 2040 are scheduled in the coming months: July 27 in Henry County, September 25 in downtown Atlanta, and November 9 in Gwinnett County. Locations and additional details will be announced shortly. Those who are unable to attend a Neighborhood Forum are encouraged to participate in an online public meeting hosted by ARC.
