|
All of those ideas were recorded in the League’s growing database, and as with previous sets of forums on sustainability and diversity, we found many shared concerns and areas of agreement. Among the most frequently heard: • Transportation plays a critical role in shaping land use, and one of the key missing elements is public transit. The Civic League’s Neighborhood Forums are part of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Fifty Forward visioning project, and give citizens the opportunity to weigh in on how they want their region to be 50 years from now. This past spring, The Civic League hosted its third set of Neighborhood Forums, this time on the subject of land use, and again, transit and transportation were prominent themes in participants’ recommendations for improving the region. The three forums were held in North Central Gwinnett, South Cherokee County and Downtown Atlanta, and drew 182 participants who generated a whopping 927 ideas for improved land use in the Atlanta region.
