In each issue of Regionally Speaking, The Civic League recognizes the important work of a few of the organizations and individuals nominated for its 2009 Regional Excellence Awards. This month we feature one individual and one organization working to make it easier to get around the 10-county region.
Cheryl King - As head of the Transit Planning Board, a collaborative effort of MARTA, GDOT, GRTA and ARC, King led an intense focused effort to achieve consensus around the use of transit to improve mobility for the Atlanta region. The Transit Planning Board was a 24-month project that resulted in "Concept 3," a comprehensive plan adopted by ARC in December 2008. TMA Network - These nine transportation management associations are working to coordinate and maximize the effectiveness of programs throughout metro Atlanta aimed at changing individual and employer attitudes and behaviors about the voluntary use of alternative forms of transportation in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. |
