| Regional Excellence: Leading Change |
|
In each issue of Regionally Speaking, The Civic League recognizes the important work of a few of the organizations and individuals nominated for its 2009 Regional Excellence Awards. This month we feature three organizations and one individual that have been instrumental in providing funding and leadership toward making valuable improvements in their communities. Cobb Community Foundation - Founded in 1993, CCF has grown from five to 30 funds in the last 10 years, and last year distributed some $450,000 in grants within this growing county of almost 700,000. Perimeter Community Improvement Districts - These self-taxing districts, which fall within DeKalb and Fulton Counties and the cities of Dunwoody and Sandy Springs, have revitalized, redesigned and retrofit this commercial business district, which now has the top market share in the region. Partnership Gwinnett - This comprehensive economic and community development initiative is designed to create more than 65,000 jobs and $5.8 billion in net wealth over the span of five years. Partnership Gwinnett has been recognized as an exemplary economic development campaign by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Association. Sam Massell - As founding president of the Buckhead Coalition, Massell has been leading area executives since 1988 in efforts intended to supplement local government. Successful initiatives have included repaving neighborhood sidewalks, placing portable defibrillators in public buildings and awarding scholarships to public high school seniors.
